At least one person has been killed after gunfire broke out at the Palace of Justice in Milan, according to Italian media. A judge and at least one other person have been shot dead after a shooting broke out at the Palace of Justice in Milan.
Italy's ANSA news agency said at least two people have been hit and some parts of the building has been evacuated. ANSA quoted the president of the appeals court, Giovanni Canzio, as saying there was more than one victim. Italy's ANSA news agency said some parts of the building has been evacuated. Reuters quoted a court official as saying two people had died, one of whom is believed to be a judge.
The shooter is still at large within the building, Judge Canzio said. He is believed to have been a defendant in a bankruptcy case. The judge, named in Italian media as Fernando Ciampi, was reportedly shot in his offiice.
Judge Canzio said up to two people could have died. The newspaper La Repubblica claimed two people were killed and one injured, according to the BBC. La Repubblica said a third person was injured during the shooting.
The shooter has been arrested after reportedly barricading himself in the upper-floor of a building. He is understood to have been a defendant in a fraudulent bankruptcy case and has been identified in Italian media as Claudio Giardiello.
Witnesses told AFP the gunman was in a suit and tie and fired "at least three or four shots".
