A search operation is under way after a light aircraft understood to have two people on board went missing in Argyll. The remains of two people and the wreckage of a light aircraft which went missing in Argyll in western Scotland have been found by searchers. Asearch was launched after radar contact with the plane was lost at around 1.50pm on Saturday in the Beinn nan Lus area of Glen Kinglass.
Police Scotland said that radar contact with the plane was lost at around 1.50pm and it is now missing in Beinn nan Lus, Glen Kinglass. They said two people were believed to have been on board. The plane was believed to have been travelling from central Scotland to Tiree when a witness reported seeing it dive. A multi-emergency response was co-ordinated involving the police, ambulance service and the coastguard. Police Scotland confirmed that the wreckage of a plane was discovered on the northern aspect of the Glen Kinglass area at 8pm. The remains of the two people were discovered on board.

Chief Inspector Fergus Byrne said: “Police Scotland has been working with partner agencies throughout the day to locate the aircraft and our thoughts are with the families of the victims. Inquiries are continuing to establish the exact circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact police via the non-emergency number, 101.”
