Gunmen attacked Indian forces in northeastern India and Kashmir on Thursday, killing five security personnel and wounding seven other people, officials said. An ambush of an army convoy in Arunachal Pradesh in the remote northeast killed three soldiers and wounded four others, the state police said. The police blamed a faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland for the killings. Also Thursday, gunmen killed two members of India’s security forces and wounded two soldiers and a civilian during a shootout in the Indian-controlled region of Kashmir, officials said. Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan. Muslim rebels have been fighting against Indian rule since 1989.
