Red Cross Federation Condemns Killings of Workers

The head of the Red Cross and Red Crescent on Tuesday condemned deadly attacks on three of the organization’s workers this week as “profoundly shocking and unacceptable.” Elhadj As Sy, secretary general of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, based in Geneva, said his staff and volunteers “are needed today more than ever” and must be protected. In the attacks, a Malian staff member was killed while driving an aid truck, a Red Crescent volunteer in Yemen was shot dead while evacuating wounded people, and a volunteer in Syria was fatally shot in a refugee camp near Damascus. |
