Essex Police have released shocking footage of a motorcyclist weaving in and out of traffic at high speed on the motorway - with a pillion passenger on board.

Paul Roberts was caught reaching speeds of 148mph as he carelessly drove south on the M11. Police said it was "the highest speed ever recorded in the UK by a rider carrying a passenger".

Roberts runs a taxi firm in London was driving a Kawasaki ZZR 1400 last September when he was followed by police officer Paul Hills on the M11. Hills is part of a motorcycle safety operation that patrols the motorway.

Filmed by a camera on Hills' bike, Roberts can be seen recklessly crossing all three lanes of the motorway, gliding past cars and even travelling through a narrow gap between a lorry and another vehicle.

Robert admitted the offence and was sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday. He was banned from driving for 15 months and must take an extended re-test to drive again after the break. He was also ordered to do 120 hours of community service and pay £460.
