Two drivers die in road accident

A man and a woman have died following a two-car crash in South Lanarkshire.

The accident happened just before 0850 GMT on Tuesday on the A721 Carnwath Road, near its junction with Boghall Road, in Carluke.

Local woman, Lesley Bagwell, 34, who was driving a Citroen Saxo, was taken to Wishaw General Hospital but died a short time later.

Ian Robertson, 37, also from Carluke, who was driving a Vauxhall Astra, died at the scene.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
