Insp Ian Kirkwood, of Grampian Police, said officers were speaking to the driver and carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area in a bid to establish exactly how the collision happened. Grampian Police closed the road for three hours while they carried out their investigation.
"What we know at the moment is that a mother and her two young children had been crossing the road when they were struck by an eastbound silver Nissan Almera," he said. Insp Kirkwood said police officers were also at the hospital with the family of the injured people. He said: "We are appealing to anyone who was in Clifton Road and saw the collision, or saw the Nissan Almera or the woman and two children prior to the collision, to get in touch with us.

He confirmed that no-one had as yet been charged.
"Our collision enquiry has been completed and we have interviewed a number of witnesses at the scene as well as the car driver, who was shaken and upset by what occurred," he added.
"We are also examining the damage to the car, which could help us find out what happened."
