Sri Lankan President’s Brother Is Wounded in Ax Attack
Version 0 of 1. The brother of President Maithripala Sirisena of Sri Lanka was seriously injured on Thursday when an assailant attacked him with an ax, a police spokesman said. The president’s brother, Priyantha Sirisena, runs a sand-mining business in the rural district where the family lives, and is known as the Sand King. He was airlifted to Colombo, the capital, for treatment. The police spokesman, Ruwan Gunesekera, said the assailant was believed to be an associate of Priyantha Sirisena and later surrendered to the police. President Sirisena, who assumed office in January, is in China on a four-day state visit. |
