Two men are in hospital after they were shot on a housing estate in Lancashire.

The men, who are aged 26 and 28, were taken to the Royal Preston Hospital. Lancashire police said their injuries are not life-threatening.

The area around the scene, on the Callon housing estate, has been sealed off while forensic examinations are carried out.

CCTV is being studied by police, who are appealing for witnesses to the shootings to come forward.

Extra patrols

Det Supt Kevin Toole, of Lancashire Police, said: "At this early stage of the enquiry we are looking to develop a picture of what actually happened in the early hours of the morning.

"We are looking at CCTV amongst other things but given the location we are asking for the public to come forward with information.

"Although it was in the middle of the night people would have heard something so I would appeal to them to get in touch."

Extra officers are on patrol in the area, including car patrols and mounted officers.

Supt Richard Bayly, operations manager at Preston, said: "The vast majority of people on that estate are good honest hard-working people and it saddens me when something like this happens.

"Let me assure them though that we will not tolerate this and we will find the people responsible and will bring them to justice."
