Version 0 of 1.

A 34-year-old man has been remanded in custody by a court in County Tyrone after being charged with rape.

William Hamilton, of McCrea Park in Clogher, denies rape and two counts of indecent assault.

Police were called to the alleged victim's home in Beragh less than an hour after the incident on Wednesday.

Mr Hamilton, who has also been charged with escaping from police custody, was arrested a short time later in a phone kiosk in the village.

Omagh Magistrates Court was told that the accused initially gave police a false name and address but subsequently gave his proper name.

He was taken to Omagh police station where he was examined by a police doctor.

However, shortly after the examination he fled through an open door before being apprehended a few hundred yards away wearing a police boiler suit.

The court heard that the accused said he had had consensual sex with the alleged victim.

Mr Hamilton is to appear again by video-link at Omagh Court on 19 February.
