Fire rips through Georgian hotel Hotel blaze 'may be deliberate'
(about 4 hours later)
Up to 90 firefighters have been tackling a large fire at a hotel in Sudbury, Suffolk. A fire that has destroyed the roof of a Georgian hotel in Suffolk and severely damaged the first and ground floors may have been arson, the fire service said.
The crews are attempting to put out the blaze at the Tarantella Hotel, which is in a converted Georgian house. Up to 100 firefighters fought the blaze at the Tarantella Hotel in Sudbury after it broke out in the early hours.
Part of the building's roof is reported to have collapsed, but there are no reports of anyone being injured. The fire started at about 0345 GMT. No-one had to be rescued from the building and no-one was hurt.
A fire service spokeswoman said: "It is suspected it (the fire) may have been started deliberately." An investigation has begun into the cause of the blaze.
'Beautiful hotel'
Mark Sanderson from Suffolk Fire and Rescue said the building had been made safe and it would be possible to restore it.
Deidre Mickwright, who runs a children's nursery nearby, said: "The fire was really intense.
"The glass in the windows was flying out and it was very frightening.
"It's very sad. It's a beautiful hotel."

A fire service spokeswoman said that when crews arrived flames were coming from the first floor and the roof of the building. The hotel was closed and its owners - two Italian brothers - were on holiday at the time of the fire.
She described it as a "very substantial blaze".
It is believed the hotel was closed and that the owners were away.
