Version 0 of 1.

The first UK-wide child rescue alert has been issued by police after a 14-year-old girl was reported missing from her home in Nottinghamshire.

Police said Charlotte Bainbridge went missing from her Chilwell home and was later seen hitch-hiking near the M1.

It is the first time the nationwide alert system has been used, since its launch last May.

Charlotte is white, with a petite build and was wearing black leggings, a T-shirt and a green coat.

The alert system enables information to be issued via text, email, social media and digital billboards.

A police spokesman said: "It is vital that all members of the public in Nottinghamshire and surrounding areas be vigilant and report any sightings."

A spokesman for Missing People, which runs the rescue alert service, said: "We hope that by launching a child rescue alert ... we can help in the swift and safe return of Charlotte.

"More than 250,000 people have signed up to receive child rescue alerts for free and these eyes and ears on the ground could prove vital".
