The organisers of Crufts were investigating claims today that a second dog had died after being poisoned at the show.

The Kennel Club asked people to come forward following unverified claims that a Shi Tzu had been killed as several more pedigree dogs have been reported sick since the prestigious event last week.

News of more potential foul play comes after three-year-old Irish setter Thendara Satisfaction, known as Jagger, collapsed and died after returning to Belgium following her appearance in the competition attended by 150,000 people at Birmingham’s NEC.

The results of toxicological tests on Jagger, who was allegedly fed beef laced with poison, are expected next week.

Other dogs said to have fallen ill following their Crufts appearances include a West Highland white terrier, an Afghan hound and a Shetland sheepdog, Myter Eye to Eye, owned by Mylee Thomas.

Mrs Thomas told the Telegraph: “The setter was poisoned the day before my bitch and I don't think there is a link between the two. I think that one (Jagger) was someone who had randomly targeted them because a lot of people don't agree with Crufts.”

A Kennel Club spokesman said: “We have received no details about the Shi Tzu who has allegedly died and whose identity remains unknown and we can confirm that no Shi Tzus were seen by the show vet at Crufts. We cannot look into claims about which we have no direct information, which is why it essential that people come forward with any concerns.”

Crufts judge Patsy Hollings said the poisoning allegations were “extremely distressing”. “It’s a dreadful situation. It sounds as if some crank got in,” she said.
