Video captures level crossing collision between Amtrak train and truck in North Carolina
Version 0 of 1. A video has emerged capturing a collision between a train and tractor-trailer in North Carolina that saw more than 50 passengers injured. The dramatic footage taken by witness Leslie Cipriani on Monday in Halifax, North Carolina, shows the Amtrak train ploughing into the side of the over-sized truck that was transporting an elongated modular building to Virginia. At least 55 people were injured as a result of the crash, with the majority being treated for minor injuries. In the video, Cipriani can be heard screaming “Oh my god” as the train approaches the trapped vehicle. The truck is then hit, resulting in the train being derailed and debris being scattered across the surrounding area. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the trailer was being escorted by police as it tried to negotiate a difficult turn across the tracks onto the highway, before it got stuck. They confirmed that the driver was able to escape the vehicle and reach safety a matter of minutes before the train hit. Speaking after the incident, Cipriani told the media: “I saw him jump out of the truck when he knew he couldn't beat it. “I heard the train noise and thought, 'Oh, my God, it's going to happen.'” |
