Secretary General Ban Ki-moon announced Monday that a British lawmaker, Stephen O’Brien, will be the next United Nations humanitarian chief and lauded his “extensive experience in multilateral diplomacy and advocacy,” business and management skills, and more than 20 years of experience in international development and health care. Mr. O’Brien will succeed Valerie Amos as under secretary general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator. |
