(about 2 hours later)
Two helicopters have crashed in north-west Argentina, killing at least 10 people during the filming of a TV programme, police say. Ten people have died after two helicopters collided during the filming of a television show in north-west Argentina, officials say.
They crashed near the provincial centre, Villa Castelli, 1,170km (720 miles) from Buenos Aires, Security Secretary Cesar Angulo said. Those dead were eight French nationals and their two Argentine pilots. Their identities are yet to be released.
The authorities believe the helicopters may have collided, he added. They crashed near the town of Villa Castelli, about 1,170km (720 miles) from Buenos Aires, according to local officials.
Local media say the passengers were French, taking part in an international endurance and survival competition. The passengers were reportedly involved in the reality series "Dropped".
The contest takes place each year in the province and is televised internationally. "Apparently there was a crash in which 10 people died. There were no survivors, according to the information we have," Cesar Angulo, La Rioja's security chief, told Reuters.
Both pilots were also killed, local media report. One helicopter reportedly belonged to the provincial authorities. One of the helicopters belonged to the provincial government.
The cause of the crash is unclear. Officials have said the weather conditions in the mountainous area where it happened were good.
