Carlisle baby death: Father charged with manslaughter

A man has been charged with the manslaughter of his baby in Carlisle nearly four years ago.

Craig Beattie, formerly of Harraby, Carlisle, was arrested two years after the death and had remained on bail.

Six-week-old Kye Levi Beattie Kerr died in July 2011. No information has been released about what happened.

No further action will be taken against the baby's 25-year-old mother who was also arrested in connection with his death, police said.

The case has been referred by Cumbria Constabulary to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

The IPCC confirmed it was investigating the force's response to the death.

Mr Beattie will appear in Workington Magistrates Court later.

He and the child's mother were arrested in September 2013 and have been on police bail since then.
