The 33-year-old was a free agent after leaving the Qatari club Al-Gharafa in January. The deal is subject to international clearance. Nenê’s previous teams include Paris Saint-Germain, where he played from July 2010 to January 2013 before going to Qatar, and Monaco. West Ham had been looking to sign a forward after Andy Carroll suffered a knee injury that is set to rule him out for the remainder of the season. Nenê can play out wide or in a central role and was described by West Ham as a set-piece specialist. He told West Ham’s website: “I am very excited and happy to be here. I’m proud to come to a really big club like West Ham and I’m going to do my best to help the team. I’ve been thinking about coming back to Europe for a few months because here the football, the ambience, everything is better.” |
