Man held over Somerset burglary in which mother and child were tied up
Version 0 of 1. A man has been arrested after a mother and child were tied up and threatened at knifepoint during a burglary. The 59-year-old was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and sexual assault in Sydenham, Bridgwater, Somerset. Police launched an investigation after a man wearing a balaclava and hi-visibility jacket entered a house through an insecure door. He tied up the mother and her child and threatened them with a knife before a sexual assault took place between 7.50am and 8.15am on 21 January. The burglar demanded money and jewellery but is believed to have left the house empty-handed. A kitchen knife was discovered in a nearby garden. A spokesman for Avon and Somerset police said: “We have arrested a 59-year-old man in connection with the aggravated burglary and sexual assault in Bridgwater on 21 January. The man remains in police custody at this time and is helping officers with their inquiries.” |
