Mark Robson is set to join Tim Sherwood’s back-room team at Aston Villa after Scott Marshall left the club. Robson, a former coach at Norwich City, is expected to become Sherwood’s first-team coach. Marshall left on Tuesday, following Paul Lambert out of the club after the manager’s sacking last week. Marshall oversaw Sunday’s 2-1 FA Cup win over Leicester. Sherwood was appointed on Saturday and the chairman, Randy Lerner, watched his training session on Tuesday. Nothing has been confirmed with Robson but Sherwood is acting quickly to replace Marshall. Robson left Norwich in November and had been the head coach at Barnet and then the joint head coach there with Edgar Davids. Villa’s chief executive, Tom Fox, told the club’s website: “I’d like to thank Scott Marshall for his efforts, especially under difficult circumstances at the weekend when he took the team for Sunday’s FA Cup victory over Leicester City. We wish him all the best.” Sherwood had been linked with a move to add the Swindon No2 Luke Williams to his staff but has ruled out the possibility. Sherwood told the Birmingham Mail: “He’s at Swindon and is in a five-year contract. You’ll never get him out. It’s a non-starter.” |
