Clean up of beach waste continues
(about 5 hours later) | |
Work is continuing to clear waste material found washed up on a west Wales beach overnight.
It was thought the waste, found at Cefn Sidan beach in Pembrey, Carmarthenshire was hazardous and people were urged not to touch it.
But the Environment Agency has said it now believes the containers of fluid-filled packages with Spanish writing on them are not hazardous.
Steps are being taken to ensure the waste is being disposed of properly.
It is likely more waste will be washed up along the coast in Swansea and Pembrokeshire due to current tidal conditions.
A clean-up operation was launched by the Environment Agency and Carmarthenshire County Council's public health team was alerted after the waste was discovered on Friday night.
The containers are believed to have come from a ship.
