Bill Cosby on Sunday cancelled two stand-up comedy performances in Boston, as a former fashion model and actress said he made sexual advances and lewd gestures toward her on the set of The Cosby Show.

The Wilbur Theater posted an announcement on its website on Sunday morning, saying tickets would be refunded where patrons purchased them. It apologised for the abrupt change but did not say why the two shows were cancelled.

On Sunday afternoon, Helen Gumpel, formerly known as Helen Selby, said Cosby had her sit on a couch in his dressing room, where he handed her a drink then stood in front of her with his crotch in her face.

Gumpel held a news conference at a Boston hotel. She is the latest Cosby accuser. Cosby faces sexual assault accusations from at least 15 women. He denies the allegations and has never been charged with a crime. Some of his performances elsewhere have drawn protests. Some have been canceled.

Women’s groups had been expected to rally in opposition to Cosby’s shows in Boston.

Prior to the cancellation of the shows the theatre’s owner, Bill Blumenreich, told the Boston Herald he had tightened security inside and outside the venue. Seven of nine planned shows had already been cancelled, by agreement with Cosby.

“I’m stuck in the middle of this,” Blumenreich said. “I tried to cancel all the shows, but I had a contract with the guy and, for these two shows, he’s holding me to the contract.”

“I can’t wait for Sunday to be over,” he added. “I’m done with it.”

Also prior to the cancellations, Cosby, who has not commented publicly on the allegations and protests, issued a statement to the Herald in which he said: “Hey, Hey, Hey – I’m far from finished.

“Dear Fans: God has Blessed me with a wonderful gift to share with all of you. For 53 years I have continued to master this gift, which heals the soul and warms hearts. Laughter! I thank you, the theatre staff (Wilbur Theatre), the event organizers and the Boston Community for your continued support and coming to experience family, fun entertainment.”
