The strength of feeling around Paolozzi’s mosaics at Tottenham Court Road station shows how important 20th-century public art is to many (Call for Domesday Book of 20th-century treasures, 3 February). Remarkable works of art by world-class artists enliven our increasingly admired modern urban spaces. Protecting the best of postwar public art is already identified as a priority for us. We celebrate the special and help safeguard it during times of inevitable change. We work with London Underground on many projects and know it values its heritage just as we do. Listing the best examples helps everyone know where they stand: so we look forward to working with the 20th Century Society, Tate and the Public Monuments and Sculpture Association to help make this happen.Roger BowdlerDesignation director, English Heritage
