From Sienna Miller to Keira Knightley: which couture pieces will they wear on the red carpet?

Version 0 of 1.

Felicity Jones

Donatella Versace doesn’t mess about with subtlety. Thankfully. Because a red carpet dress has about seven seconds to impress. What the Atelier Versace dresses did so beautifully this season was rely on form and fit and curves. There was a red version of this dress that looked brilliant on the catwalk but could be lost on the red carpet, so instead we would love to see this black number on Felicity Jones. Recently, she has looked fab in Balenciaga but a little drowned and lugubrious in Valentino. This would give her some pep.

Sienna Miller

Valentino walks a fine line between Wolf Hall and red carpet serenity. There were parts of this collection that not many women could handle without channelling Jane Seymour. But the rebooted Sienna Miller could totally own this look. She’d need to be glowing and smiley and on top chopped hair form. But on recent red carpet form, she’s up to the task.

Julianne Moore

Cannot wait to see this sequinned Dior catsuit on the red carpet. So who is going to play Bowie in Hollywood? We would like to see Julianne Moore do it justice. Mostly because she’s classy and oozes red carpet confidence. Nothing to do with the hair colour, honest.

Rosamund Pike

Sorry not sorry that it’s Dior again and we need to get something off our chests here: Rosamund Pike did not pull off the Vera Wang at the Golden Globes. It looked like it was sliding off her body, in that worrying way that snow slips off a roof. She’s currently got an undercut, which suggests she’s feeling a bit radical, and post Wang-gate is probably ready for a little structural security. This couture tap-dancing dress with disco boots from Dior ticks both those boxes.

Marion Cotillard

Much of the Schiaparelli collection would look intentionally kooky on the red carpet and no one really wants that sartorial label do they? Not instead of “effortless” or “drop dead” anyway. But this dress hits the sweet spot, between interesting and elegant. Marion Cotillard would do this justice, with its strong colours, midi length hem and primary coloured embellished bows. Sure, she’ll probably do Dior, but if she wanted to avoid a fight with the rest of Hollywood over the genius of Raf, she would look brilliant in this. Minus the headgear please.

Keira Knightley

This Chanel dress has the lightest bounce to it when it moves. Pregnant stars don’t need to be weighed down any further and Keira Knightley has placed her trust in Uncle Karl many times with happy results. This is a discreetly empire line dress, but that’s where the maternity vibe ends. She may need to consult with someone sensible about underwear options though.

Emma Stone

This simple Valentino dress stood out at Couture amongst the millefeuille and the sequins and the crystals. A dress has to be stone-cold perfection to do that with only a black velvet and a cutaway detail to its name. Emma Stone has played an impeccable red carpet game recently – looking modern and youthful without resorting to trickery. She and this dress would be a brilliant match. She could copy the hairdo, too.
