Groups claiming to represent more than 1,000 victims of the Troubles have called for an international independent truth commission.

They include Relatives for Justice, the Pat Finucane Centre and the Dublin-based Justice for the Forgotten.

Speaking at Stormont, the groups argued the focus of such a commission should be on truth, not prosecutions.

Survivors of more than 30 years of violence travelled from Belfast, Londonderry, Fermanagh and Dublin.

They hope that all sides will cooperate.

On Monday, Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams said: "We accept that dealing with legacy issues is an onerous task.

"However, it is critically important that the past is dealt with and a mechanism found which treats all victims equally and allows families of victims an avenue to acknowledgement, apology and truth."
