He was due to stand trial in May accused of murdering his wife, whose body was found in their home in Dunstable, Beds, in January 2007. They are linking the discovery to the death of a second woman, whose body found at a house 11 miles away in Gustard Wood on Saturday.
Police have confirmed a second body was also found at a house in Gustard Wood. The two deaths have been linked. Mr Weddell, 47, was due to stand trial in May. The body of his wife was found in their home in Dunstable last year.
The woman has not yet been formally idenitifed. Bail granted
The Metropolitan police inspector was originally held in custody after being charged with the murder of his wife, Sandra. The body of the second woman, who has not yet been formally idenitifed, was found at a house in The Slype, Gustard Wood, near Wheathampstead.
But Mr Weddell was granted bail with a surety of £200,000 by Judge John Bevan at Ipswich Crown Court. A team of armed police wearing body armour were seen entering the house.
Mr Weddell was originally held in custody after being charged with the murder of his 44-year-old wife, Sandra.
A post-mortem examination revealed that a cable tie was used to strangle her.
He was granted bail with a surety of £200,000 by Judge John Bevan at Ipswich Crown Court.
