A Devon and Cornwall Police spokeswoman said: "The tractor was pulling a trailer. He suffered a skull fracture and chest and pelvic injuries.
"It is thought the child has been driven in the tractor and has fallen off and been run over by the trailer." The boy, from Dunchideock, Exeter, is expected to be kept at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol for at least another two days.
