Above inflation MP pay deal urged

The Senior Salaries Review Body has recommended MPs get an above inflation pay rise of 2.8%, the BBC has learned.

The body goes on to suggest inflation linked increases for the following two years with an additional Â£650 per year as a "catch-up" payment.

This is to recognise that MPs have had a series of below inflation increases since 2002.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown is calling on MPs to limit the increase in the coming year to 1.9%.
