Firefighters had to use an inflatable walkway to rescue a dog after it fell through ice on a pond.

Two-year-old springer spaniel Milo had been walking with his owner when he slipped into water at Eastwood Farm nature reserve in Broomhill, Bristol.

The dog was in the water for about 25 minutes before managing to climb on to an island from where he was rescued.

Firefighters from Avon Fire & Rescue Service reached Milo and led him to safety along the inflatable walkway.

He was reunited with his owner unhurt but "cold and wet", a spokeswoman for the fire service said.

"Avon Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people to take care when outside during the cold weather," she added.

"Never venture on to frozen water. It may look solid but can break easily and anyone falling in will quickly feel the effects, which could lead to hypothermia or worse."
