An eight-year-old boy from North Lincolnshire has died after falling and hitting his head on rocks during a family outing. The boy was fatally injured in the fall near a farm in Somerby on Saturday afternoon, police said. He was taken by ambulance to Scunthorpe Hospital, but pronounced dead. The boy, a pupil at St Barnabas Church of England Primary School in Barnetby, North Lincs, was said to have been with his family when the accident happened. Lincolnshire Police said they were not treating the death as suspicious. 'Delightful child' A force spokeswoman said: "Police received a call about an eight-year-old boy having apparently fallen opposite Grange Farm off the A1084 towards Somerby village at around 1615 GMT on Saturday. "He was taken to Scunthorpe Hospital with suspected head injuries, where he was pronounced dead." School head teacher Rachel Barker paid tribute to the pupil. She said: "This is a very sad time for friends and staff at the school." "Our heartfelt sympathy goes to his family. I can only imagine how they must feel. "He was such a delightful child. Very pleasant and popular with the other children. He had a great sense of humour." An inquest was expected to be opened at a later date. |
