Newcastle trouble: Police attacked, with CS spray going missing

Four people have been arrested in Newcastle, County Down, after sporadic fights broke out in Main Street.

The police said officers were attacked in the early hours of Wednesday and some of their kit was lost and stolen, including CS spray.

They described it as "major public disorder".

Police have warned the public about using the missing items which include a set of handcuffs.

They said a 21-year-old man was arrested but was later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Two men aged 18 and 17 were arrested and later released, having been given a caution for disorderly behaviour.

Another 18 year-old man was arrested and currently remains in custody

Two other teenagers, aged 17 and 16, were given a caution following the incident.
