Leeds man in court over frozen chicken drug smuggling plot

A man has appeared in court charged in connection with a plot to smuggle 90kg (198lb) of MDMA into the UK hidden inside pallets of frozen chicken.

Christopher Still was arrested on 5 December after officers found the drugs at Killingholme, in Lincolnshire

Officers also discovered one kilo (2.3lb) of methoxetamine.

Mr Still, of Glen Grove, Morley, appeared at Leeds Crown Court. He did not enter any pleas and was remanded in custody until 13 March.

He is charged with conspiring to import class A drugs, importing class B drugs, possession with intent to supply and possession of criminal property.

The chicken, which had a 'use by' date of 2010, was brought into the UK on a lorry that had arrived from the Netherlands.

Investigators also found 30kg (66lb) of amphetamines at a business premises in Holbeck, Leeds.

The driver of the lorry, a 52-year-old Dutch national, has been bailed pending further enquiries.
