The Taliban attacked a checkpoint in northern Afghanistan, killing at least seven police officers, an official said Sunday. The attack took place in Jowzjan Province, said Abdul Manan Raoufi, a regional police official. Five other officers were wounded in the attack in a village in the Qashtepa district. In Kunar Province, seven civilians, including two children, were killed when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb in the Nari district late Saturday, said Abdul Ghani Musamem, a spokesman for the provincial governor. Three other civilians were wounded in the blast. Also late on Saturday, a journalist, Zubair Hatami, 22, died in Kabul from wounds sustained in a Taliban attack on a French-run school this month.
