Version 0 of 1.

China has arrested a Korean-American aid worker working near the border with North Korea on charges of embezzlement and possession of fake invoices, his lawyer said Friday. The aid worker, Peter Hahn, 74, ran a vocational school for Chinese and Korean youth for more than a decade in the Chinese border town of Tumen, said his lawyer, Zhang Peihong. “The charges clearly have no merit,” Mr. Zhang said. It was unclear whether Mr. Hahn was singled out because of his religious beliefs, although his aid work was inspired by his Christian faith, Mr. Zhang said. Mr. Hahn was born in North Korea but is a naturalized American citizen. He also ran two bakeries inside North Korea that made rolls for schoolchildren, according to a 2005 profile in The Los Angeles Times.
