Canadian woman sentenced to 90 days after halting traffic to save ducklings

Version 0 of 1. A Canadian woman has been sentenced to 90 days in prison after halting a motorway – to shepherd ducklings to safety. Emma Czornobaj, from the Montreal suburb Châteauguay, was also banned for driving for the next 10 years and must complete 240 hours of community service. The 26-year-old was convicted of two counts of criminal negligence causing death and two counts of dangerous driving causing death in July after the 2010 deaths of a father and daughter. Andre Roy, 50, died when he crashed his motorbike into Czornobaj’s car on small country lane in Candiac, south of Montreal. Mr Roy’s 16-year-old daughter Jessie, who was riding behind her father at the time of the accident, was also killed. Self-professed animal lover Czornobaj told the court she had left her car parked on the left-hand side of the road, as she could not see the ducklings’ mother anywhere and planned to capture them and take them home, according to Canadian news agency CBC. Czornobaj has filed an appeal for her conviction. |
