Version 0 of 1.

Up to 150 jobs are to be axed at the GE Aviation plant in Bishops Cleeve near Cheltenham.

The company said the redundancies were due to "business conditions within the competitive aerospace market" and the need to reduce costs across its sites.

A review of contractors and temporary workers will be carried out to help minimise the redundancies. Efforts will be made to relocate some staff.

The changes will take place over the next three to four months.

"The aerospace market continues to be extremely competitive," a statement said.

"In order to retain and build on our market position we need to reorganise our business structure to better interface with the market and reduce our cost base."

The Bishops Cleeve plant, which produces aircraft engines and other avionic equipment, was formerly Smiths Aerospace, which was bought by US-based General Electric last year.
