Leicester hospital staff charged with gross negligence over child’s death

A doctor, sister and staff nurse have been charged with gross negligence manslaughter over the death of a six-year-old boy who died in hospital in 2011.

The Crown Prosecution Service said it had taken the decision to charge over the death of Jack Adcock, of Glen Parva in Leicestershire, after careful consideration of the evidence.

Jack, who had Down’s syndrome and other pre-existing health problems, died of pneumonia at Leicester Royal infirmary on 18 February 2011 after being admitted with sickness and diarrhoea.
