Version 0 of 1.

No criminal charges will be brought over the death of a three-year-old girl who drowned in a hotel swimming pool in Lancashire.

Jane Bell, from Galashiels in the Scottish Borders, got into difficulty at the Dalmeny Hotel on South Promenade in St Annes on 14 August.

A 40-year-old woman had been arrested on suspicion of murder and neglect.

After reviewing material, the Crown Prosecution Service said no further action would be taken against her.

'Tragic death'

Paramedics initially took Jane to Blackpool Victoria Hospital before she was transferred to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital in a critical condition, where she died.

The Crown Prosecution Service's Joanna White said: "I have carefully considered all the material submitted, including a number of witness statements and CCTV footage from the hotel, and I have concluded that there should be no criminal proceedings against her in connection with the death."

She said an inquest would now follow.

Det Ch Insp Dean Holden described the incident as a "tragic death".

He said: "We carried out a full and thorough investigation into all the circumstances and following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service... and there will be no further action taken against the 40-year-old woman.

"The police investigation is now closed and we will now provide the coroner with all the relevant information for inquest."
