Fans returning home from a gig at the Forum in Kentish Town, north London, gave a spontaneous performance of A Little Respect on Sunday night, much to the delight of the internet. Apparently led by a man called Neil Francis, the men and women awaiting a train home joined in on a surprisingly lovely version of Erasure’s signature song.

On the train back from a Christmas party in 2012, Kim Wilde treated her fellow passengers to a live version of her 1981 hit Kids in America. Some wondered aloud whether it was really her, others stared into the middle distance and pretended it wasn’t happening. Wilde powered on gallantly. Later she told the Mirror: “I was absolutely paralytic.”

The cast of The Lion King on Broadway dotted themselves across a carriage on the New York subway and shocked unsuspecting commuters with a live rendition of Circle of Life. Whatever London can do …

A choir on the 19.57 from London Euston to Watford Junction broke into a version of Lovely Day by Bill Withers – all the handy work of Adam King, who promptly got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend, Lucy Rodgers. She said yes! And to quote the commenter on YouTube, “Who the fuck brought the piano?”

This one was not on a train and did not result in marriage (that we know of), but a street busker in Berlin got quite a happy shock during a performance of Bronski Beat’s Smalltown Boy when Jimmy Somerville walked up and joined in. Merry Christmas, everyone!
