A teenager who admitting raping and assaulting a woman outside a nightclub where he was celebrating turning 18 has been jailed for five years.

Luke Walker, of Cwmbran, and the woman started kissing in the nightclub before he suggested they both go outside.

The woman agreed to go outside thinking it would only lead to more kissing, Newport Crown Court heard.

Walker then raped and assaulted her in an alleyway in Newport before returning to his friends.

Andrew Taylor, defending, said his client had "read all the wrong signals" from the woman before raping her.

Judge Philip Richards told Walker: "This poor innocent girl has suffered considerably as a result of what you did to her."

Walker was also ordered to pay a £120 victim surcharge.
