Three in court over student death

Three teenagers, one aged 15, have appeared in court charged with the murder of a missing college student.

Robert Gill, 17, vanished after a night out visiting pubs and bars in Bedford on Boxing Day.

Police divers have found a body in the River Great Ouse in Bedford although it has yet to be identified.

Sean Downes, 18, from Acacia Road, Bedford, along with two others aged 15 and 17, appeared before Bedford Magistrates' Court.

The three are also accused of robbery and false imprisonment.

Mr Downes was remanded in custody. The 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was remanded to a youth offending institution.

The 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was remanded to a secure training centre.

The case was adjourned and all three will appear at Luton Crown Court on 18 January for a preliminary hearing.
