Croxteth carjacking attempt: Gunman tries to pull woman from car

A masked man armed with a gun tried to pull a woman from her Mercedes after she stopped on a busy Liverpool road.

Two men approached the car in Croxteth Hall Lane, Croxteth, at about 17:20 GMT on Friday.

A passer-by saw what was happening and shouted at the offenders, distracting them while the woman managed to close the door and drive away.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the men fled, leaving the driver shaken but uninjured.

Det Insp Phil Mahon, of Merseyside Police, said: "This was a highly unusual incident, especially at this time of the evening, and I'm sure many people saw it.

"The woman has been left incredibly shaken up by what has happened to her and is being looked after by her loved ones while we try and catch the offenders."
