The Guardian and Observer Christmas appeal telethon for mental health
Version 0 of 1. More than 50 Guardian writers and editors will be in the London office today to answer the phones for our annual Christmas appeal telethon. We really hope lots of readers will call in to donate money. In return they will have a chance to talk to Polly Toynbee about politics, debate the class system with Owen Jones, get film recommendations from Peter Bradshaw, discuss fashion with Jess Cartner-Morley, chat to Giles Fraser about God and the meaning of life, ask Sali Hughes for makeup tips, get budget recipes from Jack Monroe, quiz Shami Chakrabarti about human rights, dissect their favourite television shows with Stuart Heritage and talk about the papers and website with some of our most senior editors. For the past five years the telethon has massively boosted donations. This year the Guardian and Observer Christmas appeal is raising money for nine UK charities in the field of mental health. Ranging from larger national organisations to smaller local projects, their work challenges stigma and stereotypes around mental illness, and provides practical assistance to mentally ill people and their families. Plus, call today to make a donation and you will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win one of 10 pairs of tickets to a Guardian Live event – a programme of discussions, debates, interviews, speeches and festivals. Events so far this year have featured the likes of Edward Snowden, Russell Brand, Vivienne Westwood and Jimmy Page ... (please see terms and conditions here). So call 0203 353 4368 between 10am and 6pm today, ask Guardian and Observer editors and journalists anything you like – and donate money to the Christmas appeal. … and here is who will be answering the phones Gill Phillips, director of editorial legal services Esther Addley, senior news writer Sally Weale, education correspondent Rob Booth, senior reporter Polly Toynbee, columnist Amelia Hill, senior reporter Kate Hodge, editor, Guardian Teacher Network Charlie Phillips, head of documentaries Stuart Heritage, TV critic Jane Martinson, head of media Andrew Sparrow, senior political correspondent Peter Bradshaw, film critic Rebecca Smithers, consumer affairs correspondent Lucy Mangan, columnist John Crace, political sketch-writer Jane Dudman, editor, Guardian Public Leaders and Guardian Housing Ewen MacAskill, defence and security correspondent Damian Carrington, head of environment Rob Yates, assistant editor, Observer Maev Kennedy, specialist writer Nosheen Iqbal, features commissioning editor Malik Meer, G2 editor Tim Lusher, deputy features editor Clare Margetson, deputy executive editor Harriet Sherwood, head of news planning Ami Sedghi, datablog journalist Edward Cumming, commissioning editor, Observer magazine Ian Cobain, senior reporter Tracy McVeigh, chief reporter, Observer Yvonne Roberts, chief leader writer, Observer Paul Johnson, deputy editor Jess Cartner-Morley, fashion editor Denis Campbell, health correspondent Archie Bland, feature writer Bim Adewunmi, feature writer Emma Graham-Harrison, international affairs Giles Fraser, columnist Catherine Shoard, film editor Owen Bowcott, legal affairs correspondent Gwyn Topham, transport correspondent Deborah Orr, columnist Simon Hattenstone, feature writer Catherine Bennett, columnist, Observer Amelia Gentleman, feature writer Patrick Butler, social policy editor Hugh Muir, columnist Dan Sabbagh, news editor Owen Jones, columnist David Shariatmadari, deputy editor, Comment Jon Henley, feature writer Julian Borger, diplomatic editor Janine Gibson, editor in chief, theguardian.com Sali Hughes, beauty columnist Jack Monroe, food writer Shami Chakrabarti, director of Liberty |
