SNP wins Argyll and Bute by-election

The Scottish National Party has won the by-election for the South Kintyre ward on Argyll and Bute Council.

John Armour was elected at stage one of the counting process after securing 942 first preference votes.

Joyce Oxborrow, for the Liberal Democrats, polled 214 votes, Scottish Conservative candidate Charlotte Hanbury polled 203 votes, followed by Labour's Michael Kelly on 156 votes.

The election was called after former SNP councillor John Semple resigned.
