Clinton, Blair given NI invites
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/northern_ireland/7171787.stm Version 0 of 1. Tony Blair and Bill Clinton have been invited to Northern Ireland for an event marking the 10th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement. The DUP, which opposed the deal, has also been invited to the April event by organisers, the US-Ireland Alliance. Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and former talks chairman, George Mitchell, are also on the list of invited guests. It remains to be seen whether the DUP, which campaigned against the deal, will accept its invitation. A party spokesman said no invitation had yet been received, while one source suggested to BBC News that attendance was unlikely. Among those who have already accepted are Nobel Laureate John Hume, Ulster Unionist leader Sir Reg Empey, Human Rights Commissioner Monica McWilliams and former secretary of state Paul Murphy. Events being planned include a recorded session with some of the high profile negotiators, and a gala dinner. |
