A large search operation was launched after hospital staff alerted police and teams including police dogs, horses and mountain rescue are at the scene where Ms Bevan's body was found. A number of women have since taken to the police force's Facebook page concerned that no alarm was raised at the hospital.
New mother Jo Burston said: “I gave birth to my baby five days ago at Bristol's Southmead hospital.
“I walked my baby down to reception so I could see my mum and dad and on the way down I was grilled by four members of staff.
“And I'm not in a vulnerable position like Charlotte was. So yes I do think the hospital let her down.”
Becky Preator said it was “disgusting": “She should have been in a secure mum and baby unit until she was stable.”
Sarah Tully wrote on Facebook: “ If there was a card you had to show to a doorman before you leave which you only get once they have signed you out etc or a better system in place for mentally ill and or vulnerable people this could have been prevented perhaps?”
St Michael’s Hospital have not confirmed whether an internal investigation is being carried out.
