The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said Dayniel Tucker, 39, of the Swale area, died after the shooting in Stansted, near Sevenoaks. Officers fired two shots at Mr Tucker after he was challenged in Tumblefield Road on Saturday. He was single and had no children, according to the IPCC. It said armed police had responded to reports of a man "wielding an Uzi-type sub-machine gun". The IPCC said its investigation was continuing. In a statement it said: "Her Majesty's coroner for North West Kent has been notified and an inquest will be opened in due course." The chain of events that led to the fatal shooting began at about 0750 GMT on Saturday, when a 999 call was made about a member of the public being threatened with a gun in Stansted. Armed officers challenged the man in Tumblefield Road, and two shots were fired at him. A weapon matching the description of an "Uzi-type sub-machine gun" was recovered. The two armed officers who attended have been moved to non-firearms duties. |
