Version 0 of 1.

One half of Megadeth have left the band. Drummer Shawn Drover and guitarist Chris Broderick, citing creative differences, have abandoned the thrash-metal outfit to its two co-founders, Dave Mustaine and Dave Ellefson.

Drover said in a statement that he was quitting Megadeth to “pursue [his] own musical interests”. Mere hours later, Broderick announced “with great reluctance” that he too would be leaving the band, blaming “artistic and musical differences”. Both musicians thanked Mustaine and their fans; Broderick has played with Megadeth since 2008 and Drover since 2004.

At the time of writing, neither Mustaine nor Ellefson have commented on their bandmates’ departure and the official Megadeth website has not been updated to bid them farewell. Drover and Broderick both appeared on the group’s recent albums, including 2013’s Super Collider.

Earlier in November, Mustaine revealed that Megadeth will begin recording their 15th album in January. “[We want] to take a different approach on the next record,” Ellefson said in February, “one that probably means new locations, new producers/engineers, and so forth.”

One of metal’s “Big Four”, alongside Anthrax, Metallica and Slayer, Megadeth have sold more than 50m albums worldwide.
