Woman officer injured in shooting Arrest after woman officer shot
(30 minutes later)
A female police officer has been shot while attending a report of a suspected robbery in Lancashire. One man has been arrested after a female police officer was shot by an armed robber as he tried to escape from a raid at a pub.
The officer was on duty in Brindle Road in the Bamber Bridge area of Preston when the incident happened at about 0830 GMT. The officer was investigating reports of robbery at the Hospital Inn in the Bamber Bridge area of Preston.
Lancashire's Acting Assistant Chief Constable Jerry Graham said the officer "suffered a minor injury which is not believed to be life-threatening". The officer was shot in the leg by the masked robber after colleagues ordered him to drop his weapon.
He added that a major investigation was under way. Searches are under way for a second man in what police say is "an incredibly serious situation".
'Early stages'
Residents have reported intensive police activity, including the force helicopter, around the Hospital Inn pub.
Linda Buckland, who lives near the pub, said: "We have been told to keep away from the windows and not to go outside.
"My son tried to go outside to find out what was happening and he was told to get back inside."
A Lancashire police spokeswoman said it was unclear whether a second person had been injured.
"Police were called to premises this morning at Bamber Bridge where a firearm would appear to have been discharged," ACC Graham said.
"Lancashire Constabulary have launched a major investigation and we are at the very earliest stages of this inquiry."
