Two 16-year-old youths have been charged with armed robbery following an attack on two tourists in west Belfast. Two teenagers have appeared in court in connection with an attack on two Canadian tourists in west Belfast.
A Canadian tourist was beaten with a baseball bat and his sister was pushed during the incident. The youths, aged 16 and 17, were charged with robbing the brother and sister of £20 and a piece of jewellery.
The 25-year-old man was hit on the head with the bat and his sister, 27, was pushed against a wall in the attack at Bearnagh Drive early on Sunday. They were released on bail of £200 each and told they must live outside west Belfast.
The two youths are expected to appear in court on Monday. Two other teenagers also arrested have been released. The man was hit on the head with a baseball bat and needed stitches. The woman was pushed against a wall. They returned home to Canada on Monday.
The Canadian man was treated in the Royal Victoria Hospital where he received stitches for a head injury.
The tourists were taking a walk early on Sunday morning after a visit to their relatives in the area.
The two 16-year-olds are expected to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court on Monday.
